Obituary for Mrs. Inez Austin King

Goldsboro - We, the management and staff of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors, join with the King and connected families to announce the earthly departure of Mrs. Inez Austin King, 79, of Goldsboro, NC. Mrs. King transitioned at the Goldsboro Rehabilitation Center, formerly The Brian Center.

Inez Austin King, daughter of the late Mabel and "Money "Austin, was born on October 29, 1943, in Newton Grove, NC. She departed this life on April 11, 2023, at Goldsboro Rehabilitation Center, formerly known as The Brian Center.

She was raised on a farm in Newton Grove. She went to school until she became blind at the
tender age of 16. She would often tell us stories of her days at "Camp Dogwood," (which is a camp for people who are blind and those with eye conditions. She enjoyed the activities there until she could no longer go because of her health conditions.

She was the youngest child of three children born to her parents, and despite her being blind, she could still help her family around the farm. In the early 60s, Inez would meet and soon wed the love of her life, the late George King.

After marriage, the two decided to move to Goldsboro, NC. Although she never had the opportunity to give birth to any children, she would go on to raise her nephew by marriage to Douglas and her niece and nephew Shauna and Thaddeus for a couple of years. Douglas would come to spend the weekends with them so often that they decided to raise him as their son. Uncle George passed away about 25 years after their marriage.

Inez will be remembered as a woman of strong character who cared for her husband until his death. She never ceased to amaze those who knew her; she would often cook, clean, and even plant a garden in her backyard. She gave her life to Christ years ago, and she was sold out to Christ until she took her last breath; she joined Solid Rock church; and would later change her membership to New Stoney Hill United Holy Church and remained a faithful member until her passing. Inez had a niece named Clarice Austin Hamilton, who preceded her in death. Clarice was more like a daughter to her; When you saw one, you saw the other.

She was the matriarch of the Austin family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George King, sister Nellie Austin, brothers: Bobby Joe Austin and Kerry Austin, and a very special niece Clarice Austin Hamilton.

She leaves to cherish a son she raised as her own (Douglas Melvin); niece(Shauna
Austin), nephew (Thaddeus Austin) whom she helped rear, and two special nephews, Thomas Austin and Joseph Austin(Judy), as well as a host of other family members/relatives and friends.

The Family will be receiving friends at the home of her nephew :
